FUN FACTS ABOUT THE BONESHAKER BICYCLE
The first type of bicycle was built in the early 1800's and was called a Two-Wheeled Riding Machine.In 1858 Pierre Michaux's added pedals to the stiff wrought-iron and wooden wheeled bike, creating a bone-jarring machine which became known as the "Boneshaker".
Cobblestone roads of the day made for an extremely uncomfortable ride.
Soon a fad began of indoor riding academies, similar to roller rinks, and could be fount in most large cities.In 1869 solid rubber tires replaced the old wooden ones and the term
Bicycle was first used.
Today, here are very few original Boneshakers in existence, most having been melted down for scrap metal during WWI. Those found command high prices, typically up to 5,000.00
